History
Traditional Chinese Medicine started using external medicine for simple infections and wounds. They began using medicinal plants and needles (Bian Stone) to relieve and cure discomforts of the external areas of the body. The 1st external medicine Dr. was recorded in the 5th – 4th century treating hemorrhoids with surgery.

Historical Books and People In Chinese Medicine History

Nei Jing – discovered that certain foods can produce boils.

Hua Toa – 141-203 – created the herbal formula secret – Ma Fuo San
Formula enabled him to do abdominal surgeries and remove diseased intestines.

Zhan Zhong Jing – 150-219 – worked on acute abdominal disorders (appendicitis)

Dr Gu Hung – 281-341 – goiter – used Hai Zao
– rabies – made formula with sick dog brain to apply to wounds.

Liu Juan Zi Gui Yi Feng – 1st recorded external medicine book (earlier book was lost)
