Antidepressant use may cause Male Infertility: Harvard Study

A recent presentation at the 64th annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in San Francisco expressed that there is a five-fold increase in the number of men who developed abnormal sperm DNA while being treated with paroxetine (Paxil). This suggests SSRI antidepressant medications have an adverse effect on fertility.
Sperm DNA fragmentation has been correlated with increased miscarriage, and a decrease in ICSI success. Although testing for DNA fragmentation is not routine in a male fertility workup, more and more men are demanding this new test.
As well, SSRI antidepressants cause erectile dysfunction, which further impedes fertility and sexual anxiety, as well as relationship stress, thus causing the emotions that they were actually designed to help. If SSRI’s are not necessary treatment for the safety and wellbeing of a patient, it is advisable to look for options
