-purge accumulations, clear heat from blood, invigorates blood
-drain heat/damp – Yang jaundice
-topically for burns, hot skin, skin lesions (combine with Shi Gao)
Orally, Da Huang / Rhubarb is used for constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, gastritis, preparation for gastrointestinal diagnostic procedures after recto-anal surgery, for bowel movement relief when anal fissures are present, and for hemorrhoids.
For food uses, rhubarb stems are edible. Rhubarb is also used as a flavoring agent.
